This is a multidisciplinary runway work centered on embodiment, material transformation, and sensory convergence.

Themes of rumination, boundary, delicacy, and exposure are not merely referenced but embodied through material and form, where frayed edges and dense accumulations mirror internal states.

Constructed in part from a single deconstructed woven rug, the pieces emerge through processes of unraveling and reconstitution, shifting between opulence and abrasion, delicacy and rupture. In this tension, decadent and raw, sensual yet frayed, the work locates a visual language of transition.

The accompanying soundscape, composed by Justin Busby, features vocals by Alexander Smirnoff, with additional contributions from a small circle of collaborators whose voices and instrumentation subtly extend the work’s sonic environment and collective nature.

Arden is, at its core, an act of vulnerability.

To present this work within a community of peers and collaborators is to render visible an ongoing internal negotiation, of identity, authorship, and presence.

It insists on exposure, on inhabiting one’s own space without retreat, and on the act of becoming.

Alexander Smirnoff is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice traverses an array of mediums, sound, and sculptural form, using this space as a provisional yet potent vessel for convergence. Across three self-produced runway works, he has developed a recurring ethos rooted in the elevation of the discarded. Found and repurposed materials, ceramic fragments, woven scraps, and textile remnants, are reconstituted through labor-intensive processes into sculptural garments and pieces imbued with time, insistence, and care.

 

His work resists fixed resolution, instead remaining in process, unfixed and insistently alive.
